Felczer v. Apple Inc.: $2 Million Apple Meal-Break Verdict Receives Media Coverage
Media Coverage of the Apple Meal-Break Lawsuit
CBS Philadelphia and the Hartford Business Journal reported on the $2 million jury verdict secured for Apple retail employees in Felczer v. Apple Inc.
The Apple employee class action was originally filed in 2011 by current and former employees who alleged that Apple failed to provide legally compliant meal and rest breaks and failed to issue final wages on time. The case ultimately included approximately 21,000 California employees who had worked for Apple during the applicable class period.
The media coverage explained that California law generally requires employers to provide qualifying hourly employees with meal and rest periods. The plaintiffs alleged that Apple’s scheduling practices prevented certain retail employees from receiving timely meal breaks during their shifts.
The $2 Million Felczer v. Apple Verdict
Following years of litigation and a combined jury and bench trial, the jury found in favor of a subclass of California hourly retail employees. The jury awarded the subclass $2 million in damages for violations of California wage-and-hour laws.
Hogue + Belong attorneys Jeffrey L. Hogue and Tyler J. Belong represented the employees in the Apple meal-break class action. The verdict was also among the results highlighted when Hogue + Belong was named 2017 Litigators of the Year.
